Reacher is an American action crime story played by Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher. The series developed by Nick Santora are based on the Jack Reacher book series by Lee Child. There are 24 Jack Reacher novels. The first season premiered on Netflix on February 4th, 2022, is based on “Killing Floor,” from the Reacher book series that debuted in 1997. The premier of the second season on December 15, 2023, based on Child’s “Bad Luck and Trouble,” 2007 novel with anticipation of the 3rd Season scheduled to premier on February 20, 2025, based on Child’s 2003 novel “Persuader.”
The story focusses on a former U.S. Army military police major who also have extensive AWOL investigative, combat experience. Jack Reacher is somewhat of a wanderer/drifter, who basically travels around with the very bare necessities, few personal hygienic items and, the clothes off his back.
In the first season, he visits a rural town called Margrave located outside of Georgia where he’s arrested for murder that he didn’t commit. Immediately after he’s released from jail, he teams up with two police officers who he believes are honest as they begin to investigate the town’s local conspiracy, involving corrupt politicians, wealthy business tycoon & his son.
The 2nd season, Reacher former members of his defunct MP unit from New York City contact him when one of their former members is murdered and, he now needs to investigate who’s behind the murders but, to do so, he reunites with members of his old team. In this season, we get a much deeper dive into his personality, his sense of emotions as it relates to his family, friends & personal loss and, how he processes those emotions which makes him more human like rather than this macho masculine physical exterior that he portrays.
In the upcoming season 3, Reacher must go into the dark web of the criminal enterprise where he’s confronted with issues from his past, conspiracy web of secrets as he attempts to rescue a DEA informant.
If you are a fan of Lee Childs Jack Reacher books, then, you would know that Tom Cruise played the character in the past and although, Tom Cruise is a great actor, the movie didn’t do so well. However, I believe that Alan Ritchson is more closely related to the character minus a slight difference in size. Additionally, the supporting cast all performed their roles brilliantly, the script is well-written, fight scenes & sequence, chemistry amongst the various characters and, the pace of the show is excellent. To sum up, the show does not pretend to be anything else other than an action-based drama series that focuses on a complex character whose sole purpose is to do the right thing, his way of doing.
