Landman is a 10-episode drama series that’s created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, staring Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a landman for an oil company, premiered November 17, 2024, on Paramount+. The series is based on a podcast called Boomtown, hosted by Wallace.
Landman is a modern-day tale of the world of oil rigs based out of in West Texas. The series follows Tommy Norris as he navigates the world of oil billionaires, drug cartels, money and power, while dealing with his own personal issues with his ex-wife, teenage daughter and estrange adult son.
If you’re familiar with Taylor Sheridan television series such as Lioness, Yellowstone, Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown then, you already know what to expect from Landman except the fact that we have Billy Bob Thornton as the star of the show. Additionally, the entire cast works very well with one another, does not feel force apart from Demi Moore’s character, she’s the only one that felt out of place.
This series is not a new concept for Sheridan, you can see some similarities with Yellowstone but, the difference here is that we get a deeper dive and the complex environment of what makes the oil industry so fascinating as each episodes progresses. Moreover, you do get a sense of realism that is just undeniably. With that being said, I do have couple of negative drawbacks that we can live without, for instance, his family drama dynamics is a bit much. He has a 17-year-old daughter who walks around half naked in a house full of grown man or, her mother suddenly decides to leave her rich husband to go back to her ex-husband without her current husband knowledge was another.
Overall, Landman is worth watching, the story is compelling, intense, deep, thought-provoking. As well as, learning about what it takes for one to succeed in any industry, life itself but, it depends on how ambitious you are, accepting failures the same way you do for a win, your work-ethic, determination, the simple fact of not giving up, keep going until you accomplish your goals. I am patiently looking forward to them announcing that there will be renewed for a season 2, fingers cross y’all.
