The Gorge is an American science fiction film directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Zach Dan, released on Apple TV+ on February 14, 2025. The film focuses on two top-notch snipers, Anya Taylor-Joy, Drasa, and Miles Teller, who played Levi Kane.
The plot of this film is about both snippers receiving identical missions, traveling to a secret location for one year, Miles, a former U.S Marine Scout/Sniper agrees to guard the west tower while Drasa, a Lithuanian covert operative guards the east. Subsequently, both counterparts are on the opposite sides working for two different contracts and are forbidden from having contact with one another while on assignment. After several weeks and on her birthday, Drasa violated that order and initiated conversations with Levi using written signs.
Levi traversed to the east side of the gorge and spent the night with Drasa and as Levi attempts to leave the next morning, the mines on the western side of the gorge detonate as the hollow men climb it. Despite all the chaos, Levi fell into the gorge, Drasa quickly follows to rescue him, and they both learn the truth about the gorge.
This film gives you everything; action, fantasy, excitement, romance, and horror all combined into a captivating film. In addition, great cinematography with the dark-cloudy fog like setting with the right touch of rain and lighting, a Picturesque atmosphere blending in horror & science fiction. In addition, the acting performances, mystery, action sequences, genuine chemistry, pace of the movie, balance, story development, narrative and overall suspense were cleverly acted and well-executed. However, there were couple of minor flaws, I would of like to learn more in-depth origin story of the hollow men, more science behind the madness. Nevertheless, this was a very unique fast-paced Sci-Fi action film that I definitely recommend for 2025.
