Paradise is an American political thriller television series starring Sterling K. Brown as Xavier Collins, James Marsden as President Cal Bradford. The series was created by Dan Fogelman and released on Hulu on January 26, 2025, and in February, it was revealed that the series was renewed for a second season.
The concept of the series revolves around a highly trained and effective security service team who is assigned to safeguard the president. One of the lead agents, Xavier Collins, played by Sterling Brown, married father of two who’s suddenly a single father living in a new underground bunker located under a mountain in Colorado with only 25,000 people because of an apocalyptic event that destroyed the world three years prior. Consequently, one day he goes into work, his normal routine only to discover that someone has murdered the president in this peaceful community.
As the investigation progresses, we begin to learn more about their characters with the continuation of the old world, learning more and more of how the new underground bunker works and the technology that drives that world. From the beginning of life in the bunker, we see people paying with a digital wristband for items such as food, drinks, and there are signs suggesting when sunset will occur in conjunction with perfectly aligned straight lines clouds.
The deliberate and clever narrative structure works wonders for this series because it keeps the audience engaged from beginning to end. This show is not your typical political espionage genre, it’s captivating, insightful, thought-provoking sci-fi mystery, political drama that is breathtaking and refreshing to watch. Furthermore, the twist and surprises are unpredictable, which is rare particularly in today’s world. Additionally, the star-studded cast makes the show enjoyable with the strong character development and suspense drama, and action all brings an authentic breath of fresh air.
Paradise is must-see. The cinematography, visuals, writing, and actors’ chemistry and intensity are captivating as the narrative unfolds. I am a fan of the series and am excited to see more.
The only drawback I have is the fact that the entire series is not available to us, so you must wait for a new episode each week, which is a personal preference.
