Sirens is an American dark comedy limited series created by Molly Smith Metzler, based on her 2011 play Elemeno Pea. The series premiered on Netflix on May 2, 2025, and stars Julianne Moore and Kevin Bacon.
The series follows an older sister who becomes concerned about her sibling unhealthy relationship with her new boss and decides to intervene. It consists of five episodes, each approximately an hour long.
I found this limited series a bit dull, offering the same simplistic portrayal of dramas centered around the ultra-wealthy, perfect couples, and their problems. The first episode starts off with the tone and pacing of a mystery thriller, an eerie atmosphere set on a remote island, accompanied by a suspenseful setup that draws you in, making it feel like the show might be something more than expected. However, after about 15 minutes, it becomes clear that the series is simply another repetition of the lives of the ultra-rich.
Julianne Moore delivers a standout performance, portraying her character with emotional depth and intensity, followed by another strong showing from Kevin Bacon, who adds a commanding presence to the narrative. While the series hooks you early on, it ultimately begins to unravel after the second episode. There’s little story buildup or meaningful character development, and frankly, I’m not sure what genre this series is trying to be. Is it a psychological mystery, a satire about the wealthy, an exploration of childhood abuse or trauma, or a drama about unhappy housewives? The lack of a clear focus creates quite the dilemma.
So, is it a binge-worthy series? Sure, it is. But I want to be clear with a disclaimer: if you enjoy shows with similar main characters or series like The White Lotus and don’t mind that it’s ultimately a forgettable watch, then you’ll probably like this one.
