Heads of State is a 2025 American action-comedy film directed by Ilya Naishuller. The movie stars Idris Elba, John Cena, Priyanka Chopra, and others. It was released by Amazon MGM Studios on Prime Video on July 2, 2025.
The movie’s premise centers on a joint team of MI6 agents and CIA officers working together to capture Russian arms dealer Viktor Gradov. Unfortunately, the mission ends badly for both teams. As a result, Sam Clarke (Idris Elba), the Prime Minister of Britain, meets with the newly elected U.S. President, Will Derringer (John Cena), for a joint press conference that doesn’t go as planned. During the event, the Prime Minister agrees to fly together with the President aboard Air Force One to the upcoming NATO summit.
During the flight, Air Force One is attacked by Gradov’s men, forcing both the President and the Prime Minister to fight their way through the chaos and uncover who is behind the assault.
This movie feels like just another typical “head of state” action film, where someone inevitably has to save the president, nothing particularly memorable beyond the fact that it stars two A-list actors. The plot is predictable at every turn, and the dialogue, including the back-and-forth banter, falls flat. Characters keep missing the point, which makes the story even more frustrating. The action sequences and lighting look cheap and poorly executed. Overall, there’s nothing special about this film, the music, acting, and characters feel scattered and rely heavily on cliché lines repeated throughout.
Moreover, I was bored within the first 20 minutes and kept dozing on and off, that’s how bad this movie is. Despite the star-studded cast, the performances were mediocre and unconvincing, lacking any real depth or charm. With that said, I wouldn’t recommend wasting your time on this one. Watch at your own risk.
