War Machine (2026) is a science fiction action thriller directed, co-produced, and co-written by Patrick Hughes. The film stars Alan Ritchson, Dennis Quaid, and others, and was released on Netflix on March 6, 2026.
The story follows a Staff Sergeant who attempts to join the 75th Ranger Regiment after his brother is killed in Afghanistan. During a training exercise, the team encounters a mysterious machine they initially believe to be a classified aircraft. As the situation escalates, the soldiers realize they are being hunted and must fight to survive against the unknown threat.
War Machine is a fairly simplistic and formulaic action film, offering little that feels new or groundbreaking. The movie moves at a fast pace and delivers plenty of action, but it also has several flaws that make it hard to call it a truly memorable experience. There are quite a few cheesy one-liners and some attempts at emotional moments, though they don’t always land. Alan Ritchson delivers a solid performance and brings his usual energetic and fun screen presence, which helps keep the film entertaining. However, outside of Ritchson, there’s very little character development, and the movie never fully explains the motives behind the attacks or the origins of the machine. Even for a sci-fi story, some additional context would have helped.
Overall, War Machine isn’t the worst movie you’ll see, but it’s far from the best. It’s a decent watch if you’re already browsing Netflix and looking for a quick action film to pass the time.
