M.I.A. premiered on Peacock on May 7, 2026, with nine episodes. Created by Bill Dubuque (Ozark), the series follows Etta Tiger Jonze, who leaves the Florida Keys after a family tragedy and heads to Miami, where her path quickly intertwines with others.

Going in, I had high expectations given how strong Ozark was. However, after the first episode, it became clear this series doesn’t come close to that level. Instead, it leans into a predictable, overdone “drug cartel meets Miami nightlife” storyline. From early on, it was easy to see where things were headed, I found myself calling most of the outcomes across all nine episodes.

The writing feels weak, with noticeable plot holes, inconsistencies, and an overall unrealistic storyline. The acting is average at best, and stretching this into nine episodes only to end on a cliffhanger felt unnecessary and frustrating.
That said, the show does have its highlights. The cinematography, editing, and color grading are visually stunning, capturing a sleek, glamorous Miami aesthetic that’s genuinely enjoyable to watch.

Overall, aside from its visual appeal, M.I.A. falls short and isn’t worth the time.
