Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War (2026) is an American political action thriller directed by Andrew Bernstein and written by Aaron Rabin and John Krasinski. It serves as the sixth film and third reboot in the Jack Ryan franchise, based on the Ryanverse created by Tom Clancy.
The film continues the story from the Amazon Prime Video series Jack Ryan (2018–2023), with John Krasinski reprising his role alongside Michael Kelly, Betty Gabriel, and Wendell Pierce. It was released on May 20, 2026, on Prime Video.
The film follows Jack Ryan as he is pulled back into the world of espionage after an international mission uncovering a dangerous conspiracy. He reunites with familiar faces, including CIA boss James Greer and operative Mike November.
While the Jack Ryan series has been well-received, this film unfortunately falls short. It feels like an attempt to condense an eight-episode storyline into a 90-minute runtime, and the result is rushed and underdeveloped. The script is the film’s biggest weakness, there’s little buildup, tension, or depth. Key character motivations and internal conflicts are revealed far too quickly, leaving little room for suspense or audience investment.
There are a few bright spots, including solid performances, some engaging fight sequences, and moments of strong cinematography. However, these elements aren’t enough to carry the film. The story feels predictable, the characters often make illogical decisions, and the overall pacing lacks the suspense expected from a strong espionage thriller.
It’s especially disappointing given how well the original series was executed. Ultimately, Ghost War feels like a missed opportunity and an underwhelming conclusion to an otherwise strong franchise.
