Trigger is a 2025 South Korean action thriller series written and directed by Kwon Oh-seung. Starring Kim Nam-gil and Kim Young-kwang, the 10-episode series was released on Netflix on July 25, 2025.
The series explores the rise of illegal gun distribution and the surge in gun-related crimes. At its core, the story follows two men, a determined police officer and a skilled arms dealer, whose paths collide amid the growing chaos.
Trigger doesn’t break new ground, but it manages to hold your attention despite its familiar tropes. While the plot follows a well-worn path seen in many other K-dramas and lacks major twists or genre-defining moments, there’s a certain comfort in its straightforwardness predictability. Strong performances, solid action sequences, steady pacing, and a fittingly moody atmosphere make it an enjoyable watch, especially if you’re looking for something engaging to binge on a cold rainy day.
What I don’t like too much is there are too many story lines and although some of the characters are compelling, some didn’t serve any real purpose and, the series could’ve been an 8 episode instead of 10, which could of avoided the rushed ending. Also, after episode 5, the momentum started to wear of, there was no tension and everyting else felt rushed. Additionally, the main character is too restraint even after his childhood tragedy, which feels inconsistent given his tragic backstory.
Overall, the first five episodes are the strongest, intriguing and emotionally engaging. They explore themes of weakness, bullying, and the breaking point of a person pushed too far, ultimately deciding to “pull the trigger” and seek revenge on those who wronged him. While the concept isn’t new, it’s executed well and remains relatable. The acting, action, and cinematography are all well-crafted, making the series enjoyable to watch.
