G20 is a 2025 action-thriller directed by Patricia Riggen, featuring an ensemble cast led by Viola Davis, Anthony Anderson, Marsai Martin, and Antony Starr. Released by Amazon MGM Studios, the film premiered on Prime Video on April 10, 2025.

The film follows Edward Rutledge (Antony Starr), a former Australian Special Forces operative who pulls off a brazen heist, stealing a $70 million cryptocurrency wallet in Budapest. Meanwhile, U.S. President Danielle Sutton (Viola Davis), an Army veteran, prepares to attend the G20 summit in Cape Town, South Africa with her family, unaware of the chaos about to unfold.

President Sutton and her Treasury Secretary, Joanna Worth, attend the G20 summit to unveil an ambitious plan aimed at empowering struggling sub-Saharan farmers through access to digital currency. But the summit takes a deadly turn when Edward Rutledge and his team launch a surprise assault, seizing the hotel and taking the world leaders hostage. In the commotion, President Sutton, Secret Service Agent Manny Ruiz, and a few key delegates manage to escape. Together, they formulate a plan to retake control of the summit and rescue the hostages.

G20 is an enjoyable watch, a blend of action, humor, family, resilience, and more. While it has its fair share of plot holes, predictable moments, lack of realism, and clichéd characters, it doesn’t pretend to be the next big blockbuster. The pacing is solid and keeps you engaged, especially as it builds toward the major action sequences. Viola Davis brings a strong presence in her action scenes, and Antony Starr makes a compelling villain. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely entertaining.

The movie is nothing you haven’t seen before, and if you go in with no expectations and can look past the flaws I mentioned earlier, it’s absolutely worth a watch. Especially if you’re already paying for Prime, why not kick back with an action-packed flick featuring a one-woman army taking down the bad guys, all while you sip a couple of adult beverages, totally unbothered.
