Ballerina is a 2025 American action thriller directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatten. Serving as an interquel, the film takes place between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum (2019) and Chapter 4 (2023), making it the fifth installment in the John Wick franchise. The movie stars Ana de Armas, Keanu Reeves, Lance Reddick, and others.

The film follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), the daughter of two assassins: Javier of the Ruska Roma and his wife. When Eve was young, her father took her away from the Cult to give her a better life. However, the Cult’s Chancellor tracked them down, leading to a deadly crossfire in which her father was killed while helping Eve escape. Afterward, Eve meets Winston Scott, the owner of the New York Continental, who takes her to the Ruska Roma. There, she meets the Director and agrees to join them. Over the next 12 years, Eve trains both as a ballerina and as an assassin/bodyguard under the guidance of the Director and Nogi.
The movie features stunning visuals that really bring the action to life, filled with vibrant intensity and Eve’s thirst for vengeance. Ana de Armas delivers an outstanding performance, fully embodying the role. She also shares great chemistry with Keanu Reeves and the supporting cast. However, much like the John Wick franchise, the plot is fairly simple, and the dialogue can be a bit shallow. Still, it offers pure, enjoyable action from start to finish.
Overall, the film’s direction is strong and sets the tone right from the opening scene, delivering action-packed entertainment in all its glory. The choreography and stunt work are incredible, showcasing a variety of unique fighting styles among the characters. Additionally, the cinematography is impressive, accompanied by efficient editing, stunning views of Prague, and striking visual effects.
Ballerina is solid and a worthy addition to the John Wick franchise.
