Concave movie is a political thriller directed by Edward Berger and written by Peter Straughan. The movie is based on the 2016 novel by Robert Harris. The concept of this film focuses on the election of the next pope while examining the secrets and scandals about some of the candidates after the current pope passed from a heart attack.
The College of Cardinals leader has been tasked with organizing a conclave to elect the next pope. There are four leading candidates; Aldo Bellini of the United States an open-minded liberal; Joshua Adeyemi of Nigeria, who’s a social conservative; Josep Tremblay of Canada, a moderate; and Goffredo Tedesco of Italy, who’s a faithful traditionalist.
This movie is like a thought provoke tantalizing murder mystery of who done it. Every person is a suspect as secrets begin to leak, resulting in one trusted soul to unravel the mystery. The movie does a great job of highlighting the complexities of religion and politics, as well as the mundane process of selecting the next pope. The film explores the secretive world of the Vatican and the Cardinals’ plot & smear campaigns for the top position.
What I love about the movie is the fact that it’s well-written script, cinematography, and the various locations in and around Rome were breathtaking, the characters were captivating, especially between the language switch from English and Italian. Although, the move was a slow pace, not the fast-paced movies that we Americans are accustom too. Nevertheless, this movie was intriguing, a lot of twist and turns that’ll keep you engaged from start to end. The film captures a very interesting yet intricate way of selecting the next papacy.
Conclave is a well written meticulously crafted body of work, flawless visuals, attention to detail, tactful sense of storytelling, extraordinary characters, actors/actresses and supporting cast, all did an incredible job. Finally, the film director, Edward Berger give us a fully mesmerizing experience.
