M3GAN is an American science fiction horror film, directed by Gerard Johnstone and written by Akela Coper and James Wan. You may recall Annabelle, which is also a part of Wan’s Atomic Monster production company. The movie was released in the United States on January 6, 2023, and currently available on Prime and other streaming platforms. The plot of this movie revolves around an artificial doll who develops self-awareness to safeguard her human friend. Due to the overwhelming success of this film, a sequel, M3GAN 2.0, followed by a spin-off, SOULM8TE, are set to be released in 2025 and 2026.

Cady, an eight-year-old girl who lost her parents in a car accident, is sent to live with her aunt Gemma, who works for a Seattle toy company, Funki as a roboticist. Gemma is releasing a child-sized humanoid robot, (Model 3 Generative Android), which is the ultimate companion for children. Upon completion, Gemma paired the doll with Cady, who begins to take on a more parental role and eventually, develops an unhealthy emotional attachment with M3GAN that leads to unspeakable chaos and horror to those that she feels are a threat to their relationship.

This movie was very entertaining, especially if you’re into the whole highly intelligent AI robotics taking over the world then, you will enjoy this one. Although, the plot & story telling are unoriginal, derivative, think about Child’s play, Chucky, Annabelle, I am Mother; all fun movies, combining comedy with a slight hint of horror. However, great writing, production design and cinematography, despite of the predictability nature, and you knew exactly where the film is heading too, the writing and acting are what holds this film together. Especially, when there were two different actresses who played M3GAN, Annie Donald, and Jenna Davis, both performed a very convincing artificially intelligent android with their movements and robotic sounds.

My favorite part of this film was the visuals/ animatronics of M3GAN dance choreography, incorporating her flexible gymnastics front-flips, a crowd pleaser, entertaining movie to watch and looking forward to part 2 and sequel.
