Bigfire
Full Review
Bigfire is one of those restaurants my husband and I have been to plenty of times, so we already know what to expect. This time, though, we went to celebrate our togetherness anniversary, and unfortunately, the experience just wasn’t what we’re used to.
We arrived around 9:30 PM, so maybe by that point the staff was ready to call it a night — because the service definitely felt like it.
My husband ordered the Wood Fire Grilled Scallops ($52) with the butternut squash risotto. When his food came out, the risotto was undercooked, so he sent it back.
The waitress did apologize, which I appreciated, but that was pretty much the only customer service we received. No manager came by to apologize, check on the situation, or even acknowledge that there was an issue with a $52 entrée.
And then came the wait.
By the time they were still trying to remake his meal, I had already finished my Blackened & Herb Crusted Brook Trout. At that point, my husband just told the waitress to cancel his order because there really wasn’t much point in bringing it out anymore.
That’s what disappointed me the most. Mistakes happen, we get it. The issue was how the situation was handled afterward. When you’re celebrating a special occasion, you expect a little more attention, especially when something goes wrong.
We’ve eaten at Bigfire many times before and have generally enjoyed it, so this isn’t a review saying we’d never go back. But this particular visit definitely missed the mark.
Couple of Critics Verdict: Bigfire is still a restaurant we know and enjoy, but this visit was disappointing. An undercooked side can happen, but the lack of follow-up from management and the long wait to remake the entrée made the experience worse. Our waitress apologized, which was appreciated, but for an anniversary dinner, we expected better.
Hopefully this was just an off night because Bigfire, you can do better.
