Animal is a Netflix thriller starring Ben Affleck and Kerry Washington, and honestly… this one was just average.

The storyline is your typical predictable thriller, and there really isn’t anything new or fresh here. From the beginning, you pretty much know where this is going, and unfortunately, the movie doesn’t do much to change that.

As for the performances, Ben Affleck felt like Ben Affleck, and Kerry Washington felt like Kerry Washington. Neither performance really stood out or gave me anything different from what I’ve seen them do before. The chemistry was there, but nothing that made me say, okay, now THIS is interesting.

My biggest issue was the script and the lack of development with the antagonists. The kidnappers are basically generic masked figures with vague motivations, which takes away from the suspense. If I’m supposed to be afraid of the bad guys, give me a reason to actually care about who they are!

The production quality was decent, and there were moments that worked, but overall, the movie never really found its own identity.

Couple of Critics Verdict: Animal is not completely terrible, but it’s definitely not good enough to recommend as a must-watch. It’s predictable, the characters aren’t developed enough, and the performances don’t bring anything new to the table.

Same ole, same ole. You watch it, and five minutes later you’re already looking for something else.
